Biography

Matti Norlin, born 21 dec 1972 in Hoting, Sweden, grew up listening to Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Rickard and other rythm and blues artists.

By the age of ten he picked up his first
guitar and it didn´t take long until he
sang and played hard-rock with some other kids from the same village.
As teenagers they recorded two E.P.s, the first was done in 1986.
In -90 he started to study classical guitar, jazz etc.at a music school in Mellansel. The education lasted for two years and it was here he met drummer Fredrik Haake, and ever since they've been producing all kinds of music together. The first Matti & Haake CD "Ett svin i en kö" (-96) is easiest to describe as a Frank Zappa inspired album.

In 1991 Matti bought a Robert Johnson LP, and a completely new world of guitar-playing was found. The main concentration in his guitar practicing was changed from distorted heavy metal riffs to acoustic fingerpicking.

After finishing school Matti had a short career as a music teacher, and at the same time he was out playing well known songs at pubs, restaurants and private parties. He got sort of obsessed with learning more and more songs, and with over 800 songs on his repertoire he became known as a "living jukebox".

Matti Norlin also played with a band called Poporkestern and they did a lot of gigs in the middle of Sweden, and six weeks in Spain.

But after a couple of years he got bored with commercial music and moved to the capital of Sweden-Stockholm.

1995, as he moved, Matti produced his first blues CD "Pre-war blues" and at the same time he appeared in a Swedish TV-show
, that combination made it possible for him to start working as a professional musician in Stockholm and the rest of Europe.

He also formed the bluesbased rock-band
Dry Weave together with the bassplayer Lennart Zethzon and the drummer Giulio Proietti, and in -97 the CD "Skifid things" was done.

In summer -98 Matti Norlin released his second blues CD "
Kitchen sink blues" and the same year Matti played with singer Thomas Zidén in the band Blues Brew.

The next year when Fredrik Haake returned after some years of playing in New York and bassplayer Stefan Rolén (ex. Poporkestern) moved down to Stockholm Matti Norlin Trio was formed, and since 2001 the trio changed there name to Badge.

In 2002 Matti released his third solo album Slidin´Out.
